NEW YORK CITY PART 1

The next two posts tell the story of my holiday within a holiday.

That's because while I was back home in August, my mom, brother and I ducked down from Toronto to spend five days together in New York City.

New York is another planet. Exciting, bustling, enlivening, exhausting.

The abundance of food, stores, people, food combine into a kind of sensory overload that had me vowing to become a minimalist.

We stayed in the East Village in an Air B&B apartment on a bustling block that gave us a feel for what life lived in the city could be like. We walked and walked and walked all over Manhattan, picking a different area to explore each day.

We ordered late and sat out to eat on balmy sidewalks, searched out speakeasies, stumbled across more pop cultural references than Bob Dylan could write into a song, and all the while felt like the most unhurried people in the city that literally never sleeps.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where I'll share my picks for the best places to eat, shop, and explore in
