Every photographer has their favourite subjects… Maybe you’ve notice that markets are one of mine?

I love the early morning light, beautiful produce, and all the old curious that make their way onto stall tables. A new particular favourite place to snap is The Northey Street Organic Markets – they’re on every Sunday from 6am to about 10:30 in Windsor on Brisbane’s North Side – and they’re the only fully certified organic markets in the state. There are permaculture displays, lots of places to sit down and enjoy delicious healthy hippy food (and coffee), and row upon row of strange and wonderful fruits and veggies in all their natural, irregular, doesn’t-look-how-it-does-in-the-supermarket, fresh-from-the-garden glory. I mean that’s what a tomato is meant to look like, right?

Yes you told all about the photography and light and everything, but I still don’t know if it’s worth to go there :) What about prices ? is that much more expensive than normal market prices ?

Hi Marek, The Northey Street markets are more expensive than normal markets – everything is organic so it all costs more. If it’s important to you to eat organic food, then it’s worth shopping there. If not, I’d say it’s still worth going for the experience – the people watching – and it’s a lovely place to have a coffee and read the weekend paper!
