{ikea hack} Console Table

by Catherine on September 25, 2012

Finding bargain basement decorating solutions for tiny apartments with crumbly plaster walls that you don’t dare pierce with a nail for fear of losing your security deposit… that can be tough. Enter my latest Ikea hack. Using a wall shelf and two table legs I’ve fashioned the perfect console table for setting framed pictures, a reading lamp and flowers (plus the tv remote and empty mugs of tea… not pictured). Beyond the console’s functionality I’m really happy with how it’s added visual interest to the big unadorned white wall behind the couch. I still feel like when you hang pictures on the wall, that’s when a house becomes your own home… but for now, having a place to lean up my favourite prints will do just nicely.

Hi Catherine,
How are you?
Your new Sydney home is lovely. It looks like a home and not just a house.
Great solution to a common renters problem.
Keep well and safe.

Hi Daryl, I’m very well, thanks! Sydney’s been such a change from Brisbane in both good and bad ways, but it’s been exciting to be in the centre of such a buzzing city. The apartment is a little sanctuary in a sea of 24 hour street noise and I love it’s bright airy feeling. It looks like I might be back up in Brisbane soon, so I’ll be sure to pay the shop a visit when I am… I can’t wait to see what’s new at Du Monde!

Hope you’re well and enjoying a beautiful Spring!

Thanks Meghan! Of all the apartments we inspected this one certainly wasn’t the biggest, but it was the brightest and lightest and I knew we’d be happiest here. I have prints leaned up all over the place and I love that I can swap and change any time. Nothing like a re-decorate on the fly to clear the mind and feel fresh! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! x Catherine
