July 1st is Canada Day and even abroad, it’s nice to do a little celebrating. This year at Forbes and Burton Darlinghurst we paid homage to my (former) home and (forever) native land by indulging in a maple syrup soaked brunch. I love the cafe’s setting in a sun-drenched 150 year old sandstone heritage building, though in truth I’d be grateful for their French raisin toast with poached pears and home-made ricotta with finely chopped mint folded through pretty much anywhere.
I don’t usually make film recommendations on The Spring, but for anyone wanting to get a less calorie-rich taste of Canada, Take This Waltz is a brilliant film out in cinemas now. It’s set in Toronto, it’ll really get you thinking about how not to relate to your partner, and it’s well worth the price of admission.
