Kitchen Tea

Spring Cottage Kitchen 01

Christmas morning at The Spring Cottage could easily have been mistaken for a kitchen tea, except for all the snowman themed wrapping paper scattered about. I was thrilled that Santa stuck so faithfully to my wishlist, because in the past few years cooking has become one of my favourite creative outlets. I think what I love about cooking – besides the very obvious pleasurable comfort of eating nice food – is the practical sense of satisfaction that comes from making something decent to lay on the table. Plus hungry people are so appreciative, and who doesn’t love a little lauding now and then? A well equipped kitchen makes it all so much easier, and I wouldn’t want to contemplate life between the fridge and stove without my food processor, mezza luna,  small coil wisk, oil bottle with slow-pour spout, and a set of simple kitchen scales to take all the guesswork and conversions out of baking.  Which utensils couldn’t you do without?

Beautiful photos, I always love how you manage to make anything look gorgeous, as if it’s out of a home style magazine.

One of the first items I bought here was a $10 juicer from the local re use it centre. In fact, juicing has changed my life (!), and in spreading the love I hope you and all your readers start juicing this year.

Ta’s, you HAVE inspired me to juice much more often (I totally think of you whenever I’m putting greens in a blender)! It’s such a great way to get mega nutrients, and delicious to boot! Keep the recipes coming, I love following your healthy advice!

p.s. Are you completely obsessed with coconut water (cause I am) and is it easy enough to get in BC?

Your kitchen prep area looks divine, it is exactly what I plan to do this year with my kitchen reno’s! My fav tools are the big wooden chopping block and global knife set, makes prep super easy. Plus my olod school scales I have on the bench (doubling as decor) and pasta maker!

Thanks! What I showed is pretty much the extent of the kitchen, so with it being so small I try to keep it looking nice! Good luck with the reno! Is it easy to make your own pasta? It’s something I’ve always wanted to try! Thanks so much for your lovely comment!

I love my olive pitter and I want a Kitchen Aid Mixer. I drool over them everytime I go to the shop here that sells them. I touch it and say “you’re mine one day” ha ha

Ooh, I would LOVE a kitchen aid mixer too, and had planned to start saving up until I came across a beautiful white vintage mixer from a different brand sitting unused in my mother-in-law’s kitchen. She said I could keep it, so fingers crossed it works! Thanks for your comment – I’m going to have to investigate a olive pitter – I don’t think I’ve ever even seen one!

the photos of your kitchen are so great! love how you hang up all your kitchen gadgets against the wall!

Thanks Jaclyn – I don’t have a lot of drawer space, so the wall is pretty much the only option. But it’s also really handy when cooking to be able to grab everything you need right there. What’s your kitchen like? Is it easy to cook in?

What a lovely little post – So nice to see inside someone else’s kitchen, and I totally agree about loving cooking. It is not a chore at all if you enjoy it!

My fave kitchen tools at the moment are: my food processor (best present ever), microplane grater (for zest, parmesan and ginger), lemon squeezer (it is amazing how much extra juice it gets out).

I bought ravioli cutters as a self-christmas present and cannot wait to try them out!! Ah, I need a new mortar and pestle, maybe that can be a self-birthday present :)

Thanks Jas! I just got a microplane grater too, and it is really good although I haven’t zested anything yet. Must find zesty recipe this weekend! I’m very interested to see you make ravioli on your blog. I’ve been contemplating fresh pasta of some kind for a while now, but I wouldn’t mind if you paved the way a bit!

We have a tiny kitchen so we’re limited on what we have room for! In my dreams I want a big coffee machine and a pistachio coloured kitchenaid mixer :)

We did get a barmix/food processor thingy for Christmas and it is amazing… It makes the best veggie burger mixture!
