DIY Style: Presto-Changeo!

by Catherine on November 3, 2011

This BCBG Max Azaria dress presents an interesting DIY style opportunity. I bought it years ago in Vegas and I thought I’d wear it all the time in Australia. Instead it turned into one of those pieces that hang around unused because the shape feels a bit tired. But the colour and pattern are right on trend.* That means its time to get crafty with my upcycling, DIY style so a dress becomes a skirt with a new lease on life, ready to mix it with a whole closet full of modern summer separates.

*Just last week my favourite London style guru announced the ascension of dots over Breton stripes as the new staple.

{DIY style: skirt, cut from top of dress and finished off with a simple elastic panel in the back half of the waist band. Worn with Noa Noa tank; a reversible jacket I took from my mother after all tags had been removed (possibly Anne Klein?); knock-off Miu-Mui pumps; vintage earings; Revlon Matte ‘powder puff’ nail polish}

Lovely! I wish I could do that, my sewing skills don’t even include hemming unfortunately :( Love the colour on you, it’s so pretty.

I love it! I think the bright colour works much better as a skirt than as a dress too :) It will be perfect for this spring and summer!

Beautiful! I love it as a skirt.
I’m so into all the dots this season. I really need to incorporate more into my own wardrobe.

Hi Catherine, lovely to see pics of you. I love the hot orange and dots too and agree it looks much better as a skirt. I find skirts and tops much comfier and more versatile than dresses too:)

The blog looks great, keep up the good work!
