Strawberry Fields

by Catherine on July 17, 2011

I’m not sure why, since it’s the middle of winter, but it seems to be strawberry season in Queensland! As nothing tastes better than berries straight from the field, Mr. Spring and I headed north of Brisbane to Strawberry Fields for a P{ick} Y{our} O{wn} date as romantic as it was delicious. We carefully selected the brightest, juiciest, most beautiful berries, and before I could even think about baking or jamming, they were devoured au naturel.

They were $14/kg… kinda expensive I thought compared to what I’d expect to pay at a farm in Canada. It works out to almost the same price as the grocery store, with the added bonus that you get to select each berry yourself. If you find out of any cheaper farms out there, let us all know!
