Chalk it Up {2}

by Catherine on June 28, 2011

Since I still had the better part of a spray can of chalk board paint left over from this project, I thought I’d have a go at another. I found this vintage bar cart toppled over at the bottom of our garden when we arrived at The Spring Cottage. I was using it as a stand for my herb garden, but then I went on vacation to the Gold Coast and all my plants died. So until recently the cart was sitting caked with mud and bare skeleton basil stalks looking ever so poorly. I knew the little trolley had potential and I’ve seen lots of similar versions restored in vintage furniture shops around town. All it needed was a scrub, oil for the wheels, and a good coast of paint to cover the stained table tops. I used masking tape to protect the metal frame and had just enough chalk board paint left in the can to cover the upper and lower levels of the cart. The smooth black finish gives the old cart a modern look, and it’s a handy place for little love notes and reminders. Add an antique mirror and some springs from the garden et voila! A new dressing table/temple to literature  for one Monsieur Spring.

I can’t believe you found that in your backyard! I’ve been searching for my perfect deco cart for ages.

I really love how you’ve restored it!
