Personal Style

by Catherine on January 24, 2011

This Cape Cod-style cottage located in Venice, California was featured in House Beautifulthis month (February issue) but I first saw them on one of my favourite design blogs, Poppy Talk. Designer Alexandra Angle mixed checks and stripes along with Swedish and Queen Anne–style furniture to create the bright and cheery Californian/Scandanavian mix I love so much. The atmosphere is bright, inviting, energised, and relaxing.  Photo’s by Victoria Pearson.

Once in a while I come across something that to me looks perfect. When this happens I sit up and take note, because it’s an incredible gift to find your own personal style reflected in an image. For those of us who are sensitive to the visual impact of our surroundings – who can be energised or deflated by aesthetics – studying the design elements that go into what you love is the first step to creating that beauty in your own life. These photos represent that very personal aesthetic sense for me, and they’ll be a huge source of inspiration as I make over my little Brisbane soon-to-be house.

I love this style and also want to incorporate it into our house. We live by the beach so it would be perfect!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I agree this look is best in a warm climate, and all the better by the beach!
